Listen: PAAR – Hone

paar.jpg

Every so often something of interest turns up in my mailbox, this is one of those rare occurrences. PAAR have self-released a couple of releases before “Hone“, three double-singles and now an EP on vinyl via Grzegorzki Records, as well as a self-issued cassette and CD.

What I like about PAAR is that they don’t succumb to the same clichéd things that make modern post-punk bad, they do not focus so heavily on “being” post-punk – they drawn influences from shoegaze and focus mainly on a heavy atmosphere where the main attraction is the singer herself. Sometimes her voice fit in well, like in “SYN”, other times it is does not go well with the sound – but as they are just honing their sound with their first “proper” release, it all makes sense.

There’s also an influence taken from popular music which can not be understated. It is good that they do not shy away from influences just because they want to be a gimmick, this is the real deal – there is a sincerity in both the structure of the songs themselves and there are some gems within the lyrics as well.

I suggest you purchase something from them, support their music so they can make more and hopefully they will develop the sound into something otherworldly. I can highly recommend this release.

Video Premiere: Soft Grid – A Century Behind

Soft Grid are back with a new release and with that a video for one of the tracks from this release, titled “A Century Behind“. Since their first album they’re still in an experimental field when it comes to their music, but they have carefully toned their sound into something that could be said to be their own.

Drawing from everything and nothing, Soft Grid doesn’t leave you with any disappointment when listening and viewing this video – even though some of it may be uncanny at first, it grows on you and you begin to enjoy it.

Their new album is titled “Agency“, it is due to be released on the Berlin-based label Antime.

Exclusive Premiere: Majestoluxe – Ghost Net

coverKess Kill and Repartiseraren work together yet again, bringing you a new exclusive premiere from the forthcoming release “Septic Shock” by Majestoluxe.

It is what you could expect to come from Kess Kill, but in a different way then former releases. Some of it seems like it has been drawn out directly from Public Image Ltd., mixed into oblivion with sinister industrial landscapes and other inwardly looking and alternative music. Especially the song that we’re going to premiere for you.

Ghost Net” is a concoction that brings together all the dark vibes that are released throughout “Septic Shock“, at some points the other songs on this album venture in the electronic body music of Nitzer Ebb – but only partly. I had never heard of this outfit prior to the release, so there are a lot of interesting and different conclusions you can draw from the music itself.

Be sure to grab yourself one of the limited edition vinyls, if you don’t – support the release by pre-ordering the digital edition. Listen to the exclusive premiere down below, this is due to be released on the 8th of April.
